11 and 12 of the Thirteen 13s charity challenge

As 11 and 12 came within a week of each other I thought Id write 1 blog to cover both. Number 11 was Congleton half marathon and number 12 was Manchester half marathon.

Congleton half was wet and windy but a great route, 3 hills, nothing too offensive like Leek half. I knocked a minute off my Macc half marathon time from 2 weeks earlier so I was quite happy with that. This race is well organised and I would highly recommend it.

Manchester half marathon again was wet, very wet and the first challenge for this race was to  make it to the start. I had a rough week between Congleton and Manchester having to go in to hospital on the Wednesday (it was a preplanned visit but a rough procedure to endure) and then catching a horrendous cold. As a proud Mancunian I was not willing to miss this race especially with it being number 12 of my Thirteen 13s Charity challenge. Manchester is definitely a PB course but don’t expect great scenery. The support and the marshals were great but even as a proud Mancunian I won’t be doing this one again. Its a total faff to get to because theres no parking and they encourage you to use public transport but then people can’t fit on all the trams. Afterwards they filter you round the stadium for about 15 mins without providing you with a foil blanket past bag drop which they’ve discouraged you to use in all the pre-race emails, so you are freezing till you find your supporters. I think I will stick to smaller local races.

Ive 1 half marathon left to complete my Thirteen 13s challenge to raise money for Robyn’s quest for comfort, if you would like to sponsor me here is the link
